In change, health, Journal, Working

18 August 10am – 3pm

Venue: RCN, 20 Cavendish Square, Marylebone, London W1G 0RN

The event will be a success if we can:

  • Collectively reflect on the image of nursing, identifying issues and opportunities
  • Identify the key audiences we need to work with to improve the image of nursing and stand in their shoes
  • Co-create goals and an action plan to improve the image of nursing with key audiences
  • Co-design the foundations for a powerful call to action that makes an impact across the country
  • Leave the workshop with a sense of collective purpose and energy to make a difference

I turned up to expand my understanding on the nursing directorate and to help Kate Pound and Helen Bevan in the delivery of the workshop.

To make myself useful I brought my camera to take pictures and planned to tweet and live stream as much I was physically able to. The hashtag I setup for the day was #NurseImage and registered it on Symplur.

The started with NHS England Chief Nursing Officer, Jane Cummings introducing what we are doing today. View the live stream here (ignore my shaky hand holding of the camera)

On Twitter, we had a great conversation about the images that come up when you do a search for nurses and the same for doctors. What was brilliant from this conversation was that other professions started joining in.

What images come up for your profession? Tweet me @domcushnan.

In the morning we asked people in the room to draw their interpretation of nursing.

We then had an unconference that brought up the following themes:

When it comes to recruitment I loved the one team who thought about ways to inspire young people.

You can view the persona conversations here (once again on my shaky handheld phone)

Next up is a tweet chat on Wednesday night.
